KHfH Passes Keys to Five Families in Waimea

It was a day filled with joy, gratitude, and hope as Kaua‘i Habitat for Humanity celebrated a significant milestone in Waimea Huakai – the completion of five new homes and the handing over of keys to the families who built them.

Surrounded by over 75 friends, family members, community leaders, donors, and volunteers, the newest Habitat homeowners gathered to mark the occasion at a heartfelt reception hosted by the Kaua‘i Habitat Board of Directors.

Volunteer Program Manager Nicole Pacanas welcomed attendees and shared her excitement for the families, saying,

“These families have worked very hard to accomplish this goal along with numerous volunteers, donors, and consistent support from multiple organizations in our community. You will often hear us say, ‘Together, we build homes, communities, and hope.’ These homes are the result, but it is the homeowners and their families that are the reason.”

The event also featured words of encouragement from Kaua‘i Habitat Board President Donna Rice, and a blessing by County Councilmember Bernard Carvalho, before the families were presented with their keys, certificates of completion, and housewarming gifts from Kaua‘i Habitat’s Homeowner Services staff. The celebration ended with refreshments and a strong sense of community.

The five proud new homeowners are:

  • Janelle Bonachita
  • Nicole Langi-Kaaumoana
  • Felilani-Ann and Brandon Pasion
  • Sarah Santiago
  • Desiree Yasay

With these completions, Kaua‘i Habitat has now built 248 homes across the island, continuing its commitment to building strength, stability, and self-reliance through shelter.

Community-Powered Homes

These homes were made possible through a collaborative effort that included:

  • USDA Section 502 Direct Loans
  • County of Kaua‘i HOME Investment Partnerships Program
  • Title Guaranty Hawaii
  • Dedicated donors and volunteers
  • Builders Guild sponsors, who participate in team build days as part of their sponsorship

Looking Ahead in Waimea Huakai

When fully developed, the Waimea Huakai subdivision will feature a total of 32 single-family homes and will complement the 35 affordable rental units created through a County of Kaua‘i and Ahe Group partnership.
