Rent-A-Center Joins KHfH Builders Guild House Sponsorship Program

For a second year in a row, Rent-A-Center has partnered with Kaua’i Habitat for Humanity by joining its Builders Guild house sponsorship program. Membership in Kaua’i Habitat for Humanity’s Builders Guild enables sponsors to make a meaningful difference in our community by ensuring ongoing success is possible with gifts of house sponsorships. Builders Guild members are recognized for their contributions at various levels and are instrumental in furthering the mission of Kaua’i Habitat for Humanity. With a gift of $10,000, Rent-A-Center joined the guild on the Hope Builder level of the program.

The partnership came about last year when Rent-A-Center District Manager, Donna Leanio, was contacted by the company’s Community Affairs specialist, Nikki Carter, and the two decided it would be a great idea for representatives from the eleven Rent-A-Centers throughout the state to strengthen the community by volunteering. One of the benefits of partnering with Kaua’i Habitat as a member of the Builders Guild is that it offers a team build day, where team members can work alongside Habitat staff, homebuyers and local volunteers on the jobsite and see how much can be accomplished when people come together to accomplish a common goal. “We have never done anything like this before” shared Leanio, the first time they were on the jobsite. Now Rent-A-Center has returned for a second year in a row to build homes, communities and hope on Kaua’i and we are hopeful that the partnership will continue well into the future.

Builders Guild House Sponsorships can truly make an impact in the life of a family in need on Kaua’i. Habitat isn’t about a handout, it’s a “hand-up”.  Our homebuyers invest in their own success by contributing time and effort (sweat equity hours) toward the construction of their home and others. When families have access to truly affordable housing, studies show that physical health improves, educational attainment increases, and financial security develops.
