Mahalo Lauren!

Mahalo Lauren!

Unfortunately, it’s that time again…….when we have to say “goodbye” to another AmeriCorps service member.

Lauren Sarg joined us as a second term AmeriCorps service member back in February 2020 after serving her first term at Habitat East Bay/Silicone Valley. Lauren was a patient and gracious team member from the start. AmeriCorps members commit to spending 10 1/2 months addressing critical needs in the community they serve.

Lauren’s supervisor Moki Nitta had nothing but positive things to say and highlighted her great attitude, strong work ethic, adaptability, and willingness to take on any task she was presented with. Lauren led by example and used her dynamic interpersonal skills to develop relationships with homeowners, volunteers, and staff alike. Most of Lauren’s term was marked by the myriad challenges of COVID-19, but she took everything in stride and remained upbeat throughout.

Some of Lauren’s highlights in her own words: “Trying to find my own strength as a woman in construction was something I took delight in. What was even more powerful was teaching women alongside me the very same things I knew. This transformation in women will impact and create an echo for all of us to work together and towards a more unified community. “

Lauren will stay on Kauai for a time doing remote work in the field of photo editing/retouching. There’s also a rumor she may be back as a volunteer to see her and Moki’s group of homes to completion….Stay tuned!

Mahalo for your service and a hui ho, Lauren!
