18 May Women Build Success
It was a beautiful day for building homes and hope on Kaua‘i! On Saturday, May 12th, more than 50 volunteers came together to participate in this years annual National Women Build Week event. Women Build week runs from May 5th-May 13th and encourages women to volunteer and advocate for affordable housing in their communities. We at Kaua‘i Habitat had a strong showing of female volunteers throughout the week with a major build day scheduled for May 12th, in which six homes were worked on simultaneously. It was empowering to see the homes transformed before our very eyes. Roofing, siding, deck building, footings and wall raising were among the tasks being performed by the mostly female volunteer crew. This was the seventh year that Kaua‘i Habitat for Humanity participated in this Habitat for Humanity International nationwide event sponsored by Lowe’s Home Improvement.
