Leading this team: Mark Heine

Mark serves as the Pastor of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Napa, California. He has previously led several international build trips to El Salvador and Costa Rica with Thrivent Builds and Habitat for Humanity International. In addition, Mark has led three build trips to Kauai Habitat for Humanity. The June 2020 trip will be his fourth to the Garden Isle.
Mark has been a pastor for over 30 years, has two adult sons, and was recently married. Mark and his wife are thrilled to lead this team and leave a great impact on the community.

The Build

Your stay on Kaua‘i is 10 nights, with departure on the 11th day. During this time you will have 1 orientation/team-building day, 6 build days, and 2 days off to explore the island and do cultural activities. An itinerary is shown below.

This Travel & Build trip will include various stages of new home construction for a group of homes in Phase 2, Increment B of our ‘Ele‘ele Iluna Subdivision. Depending on the current stage of construction, the activities may include: foundation, framing, painting, installing fixtures, siding, roofing, installing cabinets, finish work. We will have a more concrete idea of the tasks at hand when we are about 2 weeks out from the team’s departure date.

Program Cost

Each volunteer team member contributes a program donation (see above Trip Cost) that covers the costs of meals, transportation and accommodations throughout the trip and also helps further our work in our island community. The program donation is comprised of two important components:

1) A direct contribution to Kaua‘i Habitat for Humanity’s work on Kaua‘i.

2) The necessary funds to cover expenses incurred during the official dates (see above) of your team build.

Program costs include:

• All meals and accommodations for the duration of the trip.
• Transportation once you arrive at the airport through the day of departure.
• Cultural activities and community visits.
• Insurance.
• Professional construction support for your group.
• Your team leader’s airfare and a portion of their program costs.

Program costs do not include:

• Team member’s airfare to and from our build location and visa fees (if applicable). Airfare and visa fees must be purchased separately.

Day 01 Mon. 06/22/20: Travel day, arrive at LIH (Lihue) airport, check in to Habitat volunteer housing
Day 02 Tue. 06/23/20: Morning Orientation followed by team building activity
Day 03 Wed. 06/24/20: Build Day #1, 8:00 am check in at site
Day 04 Thu. 06/25/20: Build Day #2, 8:00 am check in at site
Day 05 Fri. 06/26/20: Build Day #3, 8:00 am check in at site
Day 06 Sat. 06/27/20: Build Day #4, 8:00 am check in at site
Day 07 Sun. 06/28/20: Day Off, cultural activities
Day 08 Mon. 06/29/20: Day Off, cultural activities
Day 09 Tue. 06/30/20: Build Day #5, 8:00 am check in at site
Day 10 Wed. 07/01/20: Build Day #6, 8:00 am check in at site, 6:00 pm Mahalo Celebration Dinner
Day 11 Thu. 07/02/20: Departure day, 11:00 am check out of lodging
