10 Aug Safety for our Homeowners
Lovelan and Ray, affectionately known as Lovey and Kaipo, have been living in their Habitat home for more than a few years now. This truly loving couple has faced more than their fair share of challenges, especially when it comes to health issues. Regardless of what they may be going through, Kaipo and Lovey have remained positive and epitomize what it means to be Habitat homeowners. Kaipo is a veteran who served in the U.S. Army in the late 60’s and early 70’s, and is now facing medical ailments that have raised concerns for his safety in their home. While Lovey is burdened with worry, she is also dealing with her own medical issues. When we learned of the safety concerns faced by the family our Construction Supervisor Nolan Corlett paid them a visit and installed safety rails to reduce the risk of falling while showering in the home. When discussing with Lovey what motivated her to build with Habitat, she expressed it was the thought of her daughter. “I began thinking, what am I going to leave her in life?”, she shared with a staff member, “I wanted to know she would have a home after we are gone”.
