29 Jun Mahalo Hawaiian Community Assets
A lot goes into becoming a homeowner. Many find the process intimidating and overwhelming, causing them to give up before they even get started. This is a serious problem, as we know home ownership provides a path out of poverty and offers security and stability to families on island. That’s where Hawaiian Community Assets comes in. According to their Mission; Hawaiian Community Assets is a 501(c)3 nonprofit, HUD-approved housing counseling agency and community lending institution that builds the capacity of low- and moderate-income communities to achieve and sustain economic self-sufficiency with a particular focus on Native Hawaiians. Basically they help families achieve permanent housing, by offering programs such as housing and financial education workshops, individualized counseling, and access to asset building services and financial products.
As you know, at Kaua’i Habitat for Humanity, we strive for a world where everyone has a decent place to live. But as mentioned above, there is a lot more to the process than just building affordable housing. We want our families to be successful and confident at all stages of the journey, and that is why we were so pleased to have Chanel Josiah from Hawaiian Community Assets speak with our newest group of homebuyers who are currently in various stages of the homeownership process. Chanel shared with the group the importance of homeownership and the services offered by the nonprofit organization. On behalf of Kaua’i Habitat for Humanity and our homebuying families, we want to say mahalo to Chanel and those at Hawaiian Community Assets that share our vision of a world where everyone has a safe, decent and affordable place to call home.
