22 Jan AmeriCorps Members Serve on MLK Day
Martin Luther King Day is a national day of service. We were so impressed when our AmeriCorp volunteers spent their day off from building homes and hope with Kaua’i Habitat to helping another community non-profit; The National Tropical Botanical Gardens. Justin Cary, Matt DiNote, and Brandon West are currently service members with AmeriCorps. AmeriCorps is a voluntary civil society program engaging adults in public service work with a goal of helping others and meeting critical needs in the community. Currently they are serving a ten and a half month placement as Construction Supervisors at Kaua’i Habitat for Humanity, but on their day off on MLK Day, they used their construction skills to help build a shade awning to be used in the propagation process for native plant species at the gardens.
