Volunteer Update!

Sorry for the Mess!

Have you driven through Ele`ele lately and noticed all the orange cones on Kaumualii Highway at the intersection of Halewili Road heading toward Kauai Coffee? This is the initial work being done for Kauai Habitat for Humanity’s Ele`ele subdivision phase II. Yes, we have started the work required to bring sewer, water and power to the 100+ new homes that will be build here. Thanks to everyone who has donated money and time to help bring these homes closer to being a reality. We are still working to raise over 4 million dollars just to put in the infrastructure for these homes.
Thank you to everyone who contacted us regarding the Disney Parks “Give a Day, Get a Day” program. Disney’s goal was to give out 1 million entry passes to Disneyland and Disneyworld. By February 11th, they had given out over 600,000 passes. They are now winding down the program and have removed our listing for volunteer opportunities. We tried to contact everyone who had express interest on Friday February 6th, but I was not able to reach everyone. If you have already scheduled a service day, we expect Disney to still have passes for you when you complete your service.
Construction Opportunities: Moi Road: The two houses are coming along nicely. We are still working on the finishing work on the Gampong house. Keuma’s carport is coming along. Siding on the houses and carports needs to be put up. Some interior painting is still needed on both houses. We are working hard to meet the May 1st deadline so that our new homeowners will qualify first time home buyers tax credit.
In Kalaheo, the Brown house is coming along. The plumbing and electrical have been roughed in. We could use a team of 4 – 6 people to put in insulations. If you’ve never put in insulation, it is a one of the easiest project one can do. Can you come out for a few hours?
Non-construction volunteer opportunities:
ReStore: Our thrift store is always needs help. Are you experienced in Ebay or Craigslist? Cindy would really like someone who is knowledgeable in these venues to assist with selling donations. Cindy, our store manager, will help pick out the items and set the price, than just let your creativity go with posting the ad and monitoring the sales. This could be a great project for someone who would like to work from home, or can’t make it to Hanapepe on a regular basis.
Faith Relations Volunteer: Are you active in your church? Would you like to participate in a workship while you worship? To work with other to experience the Theology of the Hammer? Kauai Habitat for Humanity would love to have you come out raise awareness in your church and come out for a church build/volunteer day. We need individuals to contact their local board, men’s groups, women’s groups and congregation and in introduce the idea of volunteering with Kauai Habitat for Humanity.
Lunch Help: Another option is being a Lunch provider for build days. If you have ever volunteered on our jobsite, you know it is hard work. Our volunteers always appreciate individuals and groups that offer to bring out lunch or snacks to the jobsite. This is another great way to get kids involved in volunteering with Kauai Habitat.

Volunteer

We're always looking for great volunteers. There are so many tasks we could use your help with, either on the job site, in the warehouse, the thrift store or in the office.
Just a few opportunities available are:
Prefab trusses
Landscaping
Construct a stone wall
Finish work
Hang doors
Base trim
Laminate Flooring
Painters

Our ReStore has many wonderful opportunities for volunteers to help including: organizing, tagging items and general cleaning. If you like shopping this is your chance to be a treasure hunter, come and help us find the gems among all the donations.

Or if you would like to volunteer in the office, we have filing, organizing, and basic data entry, also compiling and resizing photos for our photo albums on-line.

Professional services are encouraged. Perhaps you are a graphic artist interested in building a portfolio, or public relations students wanting to get new skills for their resume are encouraged to volunteer. Just let us know, and I'm sure we can find the perfect fit.
