How it worksSteps to Becoming a Kauai Habitat for Humanity Partner Family:
1. Call our office today to get on our Waiting List.
OR Sign up for our Waiting List online.
2. When building lots are available you will be informed about the how and where to get an application.
3. Information gathered includes a check of your credit, personal assets, proof of residency and income verification. We will also do reference checks and a criminal background check.
4. Our family selection and building committees will review your application based on several criteria, including level of need, willingness to partner and ability to repay the loan.
5. You will receive a letter of acceptance or denial within 3 months.
Volunteers provide most of the labor, and individual and corporate donors provide money and materials to build Habitat houses.
Partner families themselves invest hundreds of hours of labor - "sweat equity" into building their homes and the homes of others. Their mortgage payments go into a revolving Fund for Humanity that is used to build more houses.
