She’ll be home for Christmas

Just in time for Christmas, our newest homebuyer Donna Friend, received the keys to her new home in Anahola. It was a celebration as Kaua‘i Habitat staff, volunteers, donors, government officials, family and friends gathered as Kaua‘i Habitat dedicated and passed the keys to it’s 138th home built on Kaua‘i. Dennis Fujimoto from The Garden Island newspaper was in attendance and highlighted the new homebuyer in the article She’ll be home for Christmas.

The Best Thing

The best thing about being involved with Kaua‘i Habitat for Humanity is the day the keys are passed to the new homebuyers! At that moment you know their lives will change significantly. Those keys deliver pride, happiness, and a sense of stability and security that many of our new homeowners have never experienced before. It’s hard to imagine the feeling, but thanks to Robin Wong of Island Video, we now have a way to share that moment. Please enjoy this video highlighting two families in Anahola on the day that they changed more than their address.

Two Homes Dedicated in Anahola

This past Friday we were able to celebrate the accomplishments of our two newest homebuyers in Anahola! Keys were passed as we dedicated our 133rd and 134th homes on Kaua‘i to the Bungula and Lopez families. We wish these wonderful families nothing but happiness in the years to come! Congratulations!

Congratulations Niau-Kanahele and Pundyke Families

We are so happy to report that two more families on Kaua‘i now own their very own homes! On Friday afternoon we celebrated with the Niau-Kanahele and Pundyke families as we held a House Dedication and Key Passing ceremony. It was truly a joyous occasion!

Big Day for Kaua`i Families

DSCN0557The wait for an affordable house on Kaua‘i is over for six well deserving families. On Friday, May 27th, 2016 Kaua‘i Habitat for Humanity dedicated it’s first six homes of phase II of the ‘Ele‘ele Iluna neighborhood project. The dedication included a blessing and key passing ceremony for the homes of Marti Smith, Nick Wehrly, Jeremy and Rebekah Albano, Cory Carveiro and Kawehi Harris, Frank and Shana Cruz, and Nalani (Lefty) Kanahele. It was a huge milestone for Kaua‘i Habitat, as years of preparation and hard work have led to this moment. Seeing so many families smiling and knowing they are securing their futures makes it all worth while. The work continues as we strive for a world where everyone has a safe, decent and affordable home. 123A0102 123A0091 123A0058 123A0081 123A0073 123A0117

Kaua`i Habitat Dedicates Home #117

DSCN2451It was a beautiful morning as staff, volunteers, friends and neighbors gathered in Anahola to watch Kaua‘i Habitat for Humanity present the key of it’s #117 home to Vern Kauanui and Don Baker this past Friday. The ceremony began with Assistant Carpenter Drew Wolenter dressed in traditional Hawaiian attire blowing the conch shell. It was homeowner Vern Kauanui’s wish to combine traditional as well as contemporary practices in the dedication ceremony. It was a touching and beautiful event that was enjoyed by all. We wish Don and Vern much happiness in their new home!DSCN2429DSCN2424DSCN2455DSCN2457
