Thrivent Group Builds Fences

Our newest volunteer team from Global Village Thrivent made the news this week as they began several projects for Kaua‘i Habitat. The team of 12 began their workweek building walls in our baseyard. These walls will be used in the next section of homes in our ‘Ele‘ele Iluna subdivision. From there the group will be split as several members will begin building the fence that will surround our newly acquired property in Waimea. Read more about this group and the projects they will be working on in this article published in The Garden Island Newspaper.

Welcome Global Village Thrivent

Look who’s jumping at the chance to build homes and hope with Kaua‘i Habitat! Today we welcomed a Global Village Thrivent team to our affiliate. They arrived bright and early this morning for orientation, as they will be working along side our homebuyers over the next couple of weeks.  The team is being led by Diane Stewart who is no stranger to volunteer travel. While this is the first time leading a team on Kaua‘i, she has already been on five trips prior to this one. Welcome Team! We are grateful to have you here!

Global Village Makes News

This Global Village Team has been wonderful! I guess we shouldn’t be surprised as it’s being led by Jean Currie who has pretty much done it all here at Kaua‘i Habitat! The timing of this team couldn’t be better, as we are starting construction on our newest group of seventeen homes in our ‘Ele‘ele Iluna subdivision. While most of the team is building walls with our home buyers, a couple have volunteered to work in our ReStore, which generates funds for our building projects. Get to know this team of volunteers by reading the article published in The Garden Island about the great work they are doing!

They’re Here

Today our newest group of Global Village volunteers arrived at our affiliate! We are always excited to have these volunteers arrive as they do so much for us. It’s even more exciting when we get to see a familiar face. While the majority of the team have never volunteered with us, their leader Jean Currie has built homes and hope with us many times. We are so happy to see her here again! A big mahalo to this generous group of individuals who will spend a good portion of their time with us framing walls in our base yard.  #buildaloha

We Love our RSVP Volunteers

We were so excited to attend a luncheon where RSVP (Retired and Senior Volunteer Program) honored the many men and women on Island who make a difference in our community through volunteerism. Kaua‘i Habitat is but one of the many nonprofits on Island who benefit from the great work these individuals do. In particular, the steady contributions made by Loren Johnson and Guy Ambrose is immeasurable. Read more about the event and the many volunteers who make a difference in the article “RSVP honors its many volunteers” published in The Garden Island newspaper.

Tis the Season

Santa joined Kaua‘i Habitat homebuyers, Board President Peter Wiederoder, AmeriCorps Volunteer Nikita Wilson and Home Engagement/Volunteer Coordinator Pomaika‘i Brown in the precession of floats that made their way through Waimea during the annual Waimea Christmas Light Parade, Saturday night. A big mahalo to all who came together to make this a fun filled experience for keiki of all ages.

She’ll be home for Christmas

Just in time for Christmas, our newest homebuyer Donna Friend, received the keys to her new home in Anahola. It was a celebration as Kaua‘i Habitat staff, volunteers, donors, government officials, family and friends gathered as Kaua‘i Habitat dedicated and passed the keys to it’s 138th home built on Kaua‘i. Dennis Fujimoto from The Garden Island newspaper was in attendance and highlighted the new homebuyer in the article She’ll be home for Christmas.
