Stephen L. Spears, Executive Director
Since taking the reins in 2007, and building upon his many years of experience both in Hawai‘i and West Virginia, Stephen has brought the Kaua‘i affiliate through major growth and transition. Under his leadership, Kaua‘i Habitat is developing the ‘Ele‘ele Iluna site of 107 affordable homes, has built the internal capacity of the affiliate, and has grown the size of the affiliate from small to medium. In addition to the 125 fee simple home ownership opportunities for low income families, Stephen pioneered the affiliate’s expansion to working with families that had their own land, creative use of federal funding for lot purchase, and the new Repair and Renovation program. Stephen’s many years of Habitat experience in Hawai‘i and West Virginia have helped position the Kaua‘i affiliate toward enabling even more affordable home ownership opportunities to Kaua‘i’s families in need.
Nicole Jacintho, Accounting and HR Manager
Nicole is responsible for office management, general accounting, and human resources coordination. She serves as a liaison for homeowners with questions and concerns on various issues relating to their mortgage, insurance, and payment histories. Nicole has over 14 years experience working with Kaua‘i Habitat and is trained in Federal, State, and local fair housing laws and regulations and Hawai`i labor and employment laws.
Shana Cruz, Administrative Assistant
Shana provides administrative support to the Family Services, Construction, Administration and Finance Departments. She may be your first point of contact when contacting Kaua‘i Habitat either in person or over the phone.
Rick Aitkenhead, Construction Project Manager
As Construction Project Manager, Rick provides management oversight for all phases of the `Ele`ele Iluna subdivision project, including coordinating workers, material, utility connections, permitting and equipment, ensuring that specifications are being followed, and work is proceeding on schedule and within budget. Rick joined the Kaua`i Habitat team in 2014 with over 25 years of experience, including building up to 185 homes annually for a large, regional homebuilder on the mainland.
Robert (Bob) McNamara, Baseyard Manager
Bob keeps our facilities up and running. He is responsible for overseeing the organization and maintenance of our baseyard and facilities including tools and vehicles.
Moki Nitta, Construction Supervisor – ‘Ele‘ele
Moki oversees the actual construction process at Habitat self-build job sites in ‘Ele‘ele. He coordinates all phases of construction and provides necessary instruction and direction to volunteers, AmeriCorps staff, and partner families as they build their homes.
Nolan Corlett, Construction Supervisor – Anahola
Nolan oversees the actual construction process at Habitat self-build job sites in Anahola. He coordinates all phases of construction and provides necessary instruction and direction to volunteers, AmeriCorps staff and partner families as they build their homes.
Jared Holt, Crew Leader (AmeriCorps National Member)
Jared is from Biloxi, Mississippi. He began serving as an AmeriCorps member working with the Habitat for Humanity of the Mississippi Gulf Coast soon after receiving his degree from the University of Mississippi in 2015. He arrived in September 2016 to begin his 10.5 months of volunteer service to Kaua‘i Habitat. He is excited to learn more about home construction and help our families on Kaua‘i achieve their goal of homeownership.
Jillian Konoshima, Crew Leader (AmeriCorps National Member)
This is Jillian’s second year serving as an AmeriCorps member with Habitat for Humanity. She previously worked with an affiliate in Dallas, Texas, and loved working with the partner families and giving back to the community.
Kaitlyn Paiton, Crew Leader (AmeriCorps National Member)
Born and raised in Maine, Kaitlyn recently received her degree from Roanoke College in Virginia. She volunteered with Habitat for Humanity throughout her four years of college and absolutely loved it. She is looking forward to her time as an AmeriCorps member and hopes to gain a lot of knowledge in construction while helping our local families.
Milani Pimental, Director of Development
As director of development, Milani oversees all fund development initiatives for Kaua‘i Habitat for Humanity including: annual and major gifts, planned giving, sponsorships, and special events. She is also responsible for oversight of the volunteer program. Milani joined the affiliate in 2010 and has over thirteen years experience in nonprofit fundraising.
David Bieker, Development Coordinator
David joined the staff in March 2014 and coordinates all aspects of the Development Department. His duties include: database and website administration, marketing and public relations, event management, direct mail, grant writing, and Annual Fund.
Pomaika‘i Brown, Volunteer and Homeowner Engagement Coordinator
Pomaika‘i handles all duties involved with the Volunteer Program. Her duties include: volunteer outreach, recruitment, orientation, coordination of all local and visiting group volunteers, volunteer housing scheduling, sweat equity reporting, volunteer communications and homeowner meetings.

FAMILY SERVICES DEPARTMENT
Catherine Shiningstar Ka‘auwai, Family Services Manager
Catherine plays a key role in training, counseling, and supporting families who are interested in applying for housing opportunities and who are current Kaua‘i Habitat partner families. Because of her efforts in working one-on-one with homeowners, she was able to reduce mortgage delinquency and prevent foreclosures. Her studies in the Native Ministries Masters in Divinity Program at the Vancouver School of Theology gave Catherine a unique perspective on indigenous cultures which has yielded success in working with Kaua‘i Habitat’s homeowners. Catherine is a Certified Financial Coach and certified USDA Loan Packager.
Christy assists Catherine in all aspects of the Family Services department, including training, counseling and supporting families who are interested in applying for housing opportunities.
Cynthia Dazzi, ReStore® Manager
Cynthia manages the operations of ReStore®, Kaua‘i Habitat’s resale outlet which features reusable and surplus building materials and other donated household items at a fraction of the retail cost. She works alongside ReStore® employees and volunteers to bring a quality shopping experience to our community and to maximize sales to ensure that proceeds can enable the construction of more Kaua‘i Habitat homes.
Jeffrey Iida, Assistant Manager
Jeffrey assists Cynthia in the management of ReStore, and together they work to achieve the goal of providing a quality shopping experience to our community, while raising much needed funds for our building programs.
