Happy Birthday Guy!!

Today we celebrate the birthday of our volunteer extraordinaire Guy! Guy has been a faithful volunteer of Kaua‘i Habitat for years. Longer in fact than many of the staff who honor him today! We are all so inspired by his dedication to our mission and our community. Happy birthday, Guy! We wouldn’t be where we are without you!!!

Safety for our Homeowners

Lovelan and Ray, affectionately known as Lovey and Kaipo, have been living in their Habitat home for more than a few years now. This truly loving couple has faced more than their fair share of challenges, especially when it comes to health issues. Regardless of what they may be going through, Kaipo and Lovey have remained positive and epitomize what it means to be Habitat homeowners. Kaipo is a veteran who served in the U.S. Army in the late 60’s and early 70’s, and is now facing medical ailments that have raised concerns for his safety in their home. While Lovey is burdened with worry, she is also dealing with her own medical issues. When we learned of the safety concerns faced by the family our Construction Supervisor Nolan Corlett paid them a visit and installed safety rails to reduce the risk of falling while showering in the home. When discussing with Lovey what motivated her to build with Habitat, she expressed it was the thought of her daughter. “I began thinking, what am I going to leave her in life?”, she shared with a staff member, “I wanted to know she would have a home after we are gone”.

Mahalo KBR

A big mahalo to the volunteers from Kaua‘i Board of Realtors!! This awesome group spent the day prepping homes for paint in our ‘Ele‘ele Iluna subdivision! We are so appreciative of KBR! It’s through partnerships like these that we are able to provide truly affordable homes!

Dow Commitment Continues

Dow AgroSciences, LLC has been a long time partner of Habitat for Humanity. For our local affiliate this corporate partnership not only provides much needed funds and volunteer labor for our projects, it also serves as an example for other companies on island. Corporate sponsors like these are essential to keeping home prices truly affordable on Kaua‘i. Read the great article published in The Garden Island newspaper highlighting the commitment of Dow to those in need of a safe, decent and affordable place to live.

Never stop learning

It’s important to Kaua‘i Habitat that we never stop trying to improve our processes. That is why we held a feedback meeting for Habitat homeowners to share what they liked about building with us and what they thought could be improved upon. A big MAHALO to MCS Grill, Times Supermarket and our ReStore for providing gift cards to be used as door prizes for the event! Meetings like this provide us with the feedback we need to help us to better serve our community. Mahalo to all who participated!

They don’t get any better

When it comes to volunteers; they don’t get any better than this!! Not only are Toph and Sherry taking time away from their vacation to build homes and hope with us, they have also asked if they can advocate for us at the resorts near where they are staying! That’s right, after a long day of hanging insulation, this amazing couple are heading off with brochures and business cards in hand to share our mission with other vacationers. We truly couldn’t ask for anything more in a volunteer. Mahalo Toph and Sherry for being such an inspiration!

Dow AgroSciences builds with Kauai Habitat

Kaua‘i Habitat staff and homebuyer Lance Kauwe had a blast building with Team Dow AgroSciences on Wednesday, August 2. Over a dozen employees from Dow came out to install roofing material and siding on the future home of Lance and Jaime Kauwe.
