Kaua`i Hospice Friendraiser

Getaway Winner Gives Back

You may remember last October we held our first ever Build the Future donation drawing for a chance to win a Kaua‘i vacation getaway. Well the winner of the trip to Kaua‘i is currently on island enjoying his prize and thrilled us by volunteering a day building homes and hope in our ‘Ele‘ele Iluna subdivision! Jonathan and Meredith Young currently reside in Germany where Jonathan serves in the military. He was excited to learn he was the big winner of roundtrip airfare from Alaska Airlines, 5 nights at Kiahuna Plantation Resort, and great food from Merriman’s Restaurant, Plantation Gardens Restaurant and MCS Grill. In the midst of experiencing all that Kaua‘i has to offer, the couple dedicated one day to help raise the walls of the future home of Lance and Jamie Kauwe.

Farewell Global Village

We had a wonderful time working alongside our Global Village volunteers, but it’s time to say farewell. Last night our Homeowner Engagement Coordinator and Habitat homeowners sent them off in style with a Mahalo Celebration to express our gratitude for all the work they have done. The team was treated to good grinds, hula performances and lots of laughs! Mahalo nui loa Global Village for building homes, community and hope while on Kaua‘i.

Happy Father’s Day

How will you honor the men that have made a difference in your life?

Father’s Day is a day to celebrate the contributions that fathers and father figures make in their children’s lives. On this day why not honor the men who have made a difference in your life by helping a deserving family secure their future by achieving their dream of home ownership. Home is where the start is! Children who grow up in their own home do better in school, have fewer behavioral problems and have a decreased reliance on government assistance. This Father’s Day honor the men that gave you a helping hand by doing what you can to help someone in need. Click here to Donate to Kaua`i Habitat for Humanity!

Housing market beyond reach for locals

The need for affordable housing on Kaua`i is very real. Read this article published in The Garden Island newspaper on how the housing market is beyond reach for many locals.  It highlights the struggles local families face when trying to find an affordable place to live on Kaua‘i.

Fun in the Sun

This past Sunday, June 11th, our future homeowners got together for some fun in the sun at Salt Pond beach park. Our Homeowner Engagement Coordinator, Pomai Brown, met with the group of families that are currently building their homes with Kaua`i Habitat, for food, fun and games! The kids were busy with water balloon fights, a bounce house and relays, while the adults enjoyed fishing, horse shoes and swimming. The homeowner builders were then challenged with a construction game where they were asked to construct the tallest structure they could in 15 minutes, using only spaghetti and mini marshmallows to support a tennis ball. It was truly a great day of BUILDING ALOHA!!
