This past Saturday nearly three dozen volunteers from Kaua`i Habitat for Humanity and the Rotary Club of Poipu Beach worked together to make much needed improvements to Salt Pond Beach Park. The group partnered to repaint several of the pavilions and picnic tables at the park. This community service project was held as part of the Rotary Club of Poipu Beach’s participation with the Weinberg Friends Program of the Harry and Jeanette Weinberg Foundation, Inc., which supports housing programs for the poor and needy. The Rotary Club of Poipu Beach has designated the $10,000 Friends of Weinberg Foundation Grant to Kaua‘i Habitat for Humanity. On Saturday, May 6th, 2017 more than 20 female volunteers spent the day building homes and hope with Kaua`i Habitat! It was all part of Habitat for Humanity’s National Women Build week sponsored by Lowe’s Home Improvement. The entire day was a big success!! Not only did volunteers bring lots of food and fun to the jobsite, they also completely framed enough walls for two houses in our ‘Ele‘ele Iluna subdivision!! We couldn’t be more proud of all the volunteers that made this event a huge success.
Today a group of twelve selfless individuals arrived in our office for orientation before beginning their ten days of building homes and hope. They are part of a Global Village team that is being led by Rick Edwards. Rick became involved with Habitat for Humanity in 2010 when he took part in a build in El Salvador. The experience inspired him to participate in nine builds prior to this one. We are thrilled that Rick chose Kaua`i Habitat for his tenth build and welcome him and his wonderful team to the island!
