Big Day for Kaua`i Families

DSCN0557The wait for an affordable house on Kaua‘i is over for six well deserving families. On Friday, May 27th, 2016 Kaua‘i Habitat for Humanity dedicated it’s first six homes of phase II of the ‘Ele‘ele Iluna neighborhood project. The dedication included a blessing and key passing ceremony for the homes of Marti Smith, Nick Wehrly, Jeremy and Rebekah Albano, Cory Carveiro and Kawehi Harris, Frank and Shana Cruz, and Nalani (Lefty) Kanahele. It was a huge milestone for Kaua‘i Habitat, as years of preparation and hard work have led to this moment. Seeing so many families smiling and knowing they are securing their futures makes it all worth while. The work continues as we strive for a world where everyone has a safe, decent and affordable home. 123A0102 123A0091 123A0058 123A0081 123A0073 123A0117

Women Build the Community

Once again Kaua‘i Habitat for Humanity was chosen as one of the affiliates to participate in National Women Build week! This year we joined more than 17,000 volunteers in 320 communities to build homes and hope. Women Build is a Habitat for Humanity International program sponsored by Lowe’s Home Improvement, that encourages women to build and advocate for simple, decent and affordable houses in their communities. In our community more than 20 volunteers joined forces with habitat staff and homeowners to paint the exterior of the future home of Frank and Shana Cruz. The Cruz home is one of 12 new homes being built in phase II of the ‘Ele‘ele Iluna subdivision. Mahalo to all the volunteers that made this event such a tremendous success! You can read all about it in the article published by The Garden Island.
