Mahalo Global Village

It’s been just over a week since our wonderful Global Village volunteers arrived on the island to help Kaua‘i Habitat for Humanity build homes and hope in our community. It’s hard to believe it’s already time to say good-bye. On Wednesday night we celebrated the accomplishments of this amazing team led by Jan Roberta. Mahalo, until we meet again.   FullSizeRender (2)

HfH Brand of the Year

It’s the second year in a row that Habitat for Humanity has been named “Brand of the Year” in the social services nonprofit category based on the 2016 Harris Poll EquiTrend Equity Score. Habitat has also been named the “Most Trusted” and “Most Loved” brand within its category this year. It’s an outstanding achievement and we are so proud that the Habitat story is being told and reaching so many. Harris Poll

They’re Here

A big ‘Aloha’ to the team members of Global Village team 16051! They arrived this week to spend more than a week building homes and hope here at Kaua‘i Habitat. We are so grateful to have this great team, who will spend their time with us painting and doing finishing work on homes in Phase II of our ‘Ele‘ele Iluna subdivision. These individuals give their time and money to travel here just to help our community. What amazing people! IMG_3203

Happy Earth Day!

earthdayIt’s Earth Day! A day to appreciate and advocate for a  healthy, sustainable environment and protect the Earth for future generations. It’s a good reminder to reuse, recycle and ReStore®! Shop at our ReStore® before you purchase items new. You may find what you’re looking for at a fraction of the price and avoid creating waste. Also, donate your gently used items to our ReStore®. This will extend the items life rather than adding it to the landfill. By shopping and donating at our ReStore® you are not only helping the environment, you are supporting the building projects of Kaua‘i Habitat for Humanity and our vision of a world where everyone has a decent place to live.  earth

Business After Hours

A large crowd gathered at the site of our ‘Ele‘ele Iluna subdivision, as Kaua‘i Habitat hosted the Kaua‘i Chamber of Commerce-Business After Hours on Thursday, April 7th, 2016. The group was addressed by Mayor Bernard Carvalho, Jr., Kaua‘i Habitat Board President Peter Wiederoder, Kaua‘i Habitat staff and Habitat homeowners, as they discussed the dramatic need for affordable housing on Kaua‘i and the work Kaua‘i Habitat is doing to address this crisis. Delicious pupus and refreshments were served, as the many volunteer and sponsorship opportunities available at Kaua‘i Habitat for Humanity were presented, followed by a tour of three homes in the subdivision.

Day of National Service

Our own AmeriCorps Volunteers, Chris Bruton and Alan Clinton, were invited to hear a proclamation of thanks from Mayor Bernand Carvalho Jr. and Kauai County Council Chair Mel Rapozo at the Mayor and County Recognition Day for National Service this past Wednesday. We are truly grateful for our AmeriCorps volunteers as well as the dedication of all the men and women who choose to serve our community by giving of themselves. Welcome Back Greg

It is so great to have Greg Iten at the job site again. We’ve missed him! Greg is a member of our Hard Hat Club, which means he’s given a tremendous amount of time and energy volunteering for Kaua‘i Habitat for Humanity. Due to his busy schedule, he was forced to take a break from all of his volunteering. We’re happy to report he’s back and better than ever! Welcome Back Greg! It’s great to see you! Greg ItenGreg Iten 4DSCN9781
