Archive for November 2015

2015-gift-never-waster-graphic-300x300We have a day for giving thanks. We have two for getting deals. Now, we have #GivingTuesday, a global day dedicated to giving back. On Tuesday, December 1, 2015, charities, families, businesses, community centers, and students around the world will come together for one common purpose: to celebrate generosity and to give. This year open your hearts and Open Doors for those in need on Kaua‘i by supporting our Opening Doors in ‘Ele‘ele Iluna campaign!

Happy Thanksgiving!

thanksgivingThis Thanksgiving we want to take the opportunity to say Thank You to all the people that do so much for Kaua‘i Habitat for Humanity. We couldn’t do what we do without the help of everyone that pitches in to ensure that everyone has a safe, decent place to live. Our volunteers do so much. Whether it’s working alongside the homeowners doing construction, helping get the word out with our mailings in the office, or cleaning and organizing our ReStore® to generate funds for our programs, our wonderful volunteers give of themselves over and over again. Mahalo! Our constituents keep us going. It’s the donations and generosity of our supporters that keep our lights on and our door open. Without your continued generosity 116 families on Kaua‘i would not be able to say they own their own home. Mahalo!  Of course we could never forget our advocates. The people that keep our name out there and share the news of our events and achievements. Without you the need for affordable housing would go unnoticed. Mahalo!

Happy Thanksgiving to all our supporters! We are truly Thankful for you.

We’re off to a great start!

What a great day we had! Thank you to everyone for all your contributions of time and money that makes our work possible!

It has begun

DSCN0191We are so happy to report that the foundation work has begun at our ‘Ele‘ele Iluna neighborhood project! It’s so great to see the progress. Soon our deserving homeowner candidates will be raising the walls on their very own homes. It’s a great day at Kaua‘i Habitat! DSCN0205

Mahalo Coldwell Banker Makai Properties

Coldwell Banker Makai PropertiesA very big Mahalo to Rick Shaw and Milan Kenjic of Coldwell Banker Makai Properties! These two generous individuals donated their services as we sold a donated house to raise money for our ‘Ele‘ele Iluna Subdivision. The net proceeds from this sale are enough to purchase materials to build almost four houses in ‘Ele‘ele! The lives of the families in need of these homes will forever be changed by this act of kindness. Mahalo!!

In the words of our volunteers

DSCN0183We had to say good bye this week to a wonderful group of volunteers that traveled to Kaua‘i to help us build homes and hope on the island. It always amazes us that there are people so generous that they would spend their own time and money to help people they have never met. We were fortunate that this group from Thrivent kept a daily blog, so that we can hear first hand what their days with us looked like. I hope you enjoy reading about this groups trip as much as we did.

Mahalo Courtney

Courtney StorchMahalo Courtney for spending your time on Kaua‘i building homes and hope with Kaua‘i Habitat. Courtney came to Kaua‘i with a Thrivent Build team and spent her time volunteering. Courtney is a mom to a beautiful 3 year old daughter and enjoys the water, visiting family and being out in nature. We do hope you found some time to enjoy the ocean and beauty of this garden island. We couldn’t do what we do without the efforts of generous people like you Courtney! Mahalo

Meet Paul

Paul StaufferPaul is no stranger to volunteering or to Habitat for Humanity. He currently spends two days a week volunteering with his local affiliate, Habitat of Summit County, in Ohio. He is currently retired and is visiting us with a build team from Thrivent Financial that has spent the past 9 days building homes and hope with Kaua‘i Habitat. Paul is retired and enjoys spending time with his 3 grown daughters. We are truly thankful for your service to the families of Kaua‘i, and hope you will visit us again. Mahalo.

Welcome Ellen

Ellen ParkerWe are so happy to welcome Ellen to the island of Kaua‘i. She is visiting with a Thrivent World Wide Build team that will be spending 9 days volunteering with Kaua‘i Habitat. While she has volunteered at some of Habitat’s local builds in her area, this is her first experience traveling with a build team. We are hoping it is a positive experience for her, which it should be as she loves to help people. Ellen also enjoys reading, scrapbooking and yoga. Mahalo Ellen for helping others, we do hope this trip will be an experience you will treasure.

Mahalo Betty

Betty MarshallBetty is another world traveler visiting us with a Thrivent World Wide Build team. She is excited to visit Hawai‘i as it’s the only state she has not yet visited. We are so happy that she is choosing to build homes and hope with Kaua‘i Habitat while visiting her 50th state. This is not her first build trip. She has previously done Thrivent/Habitat builds in Hungary, Argentina, Vietnam, New Zealand, South Africa, Mississippi and South Dakota. Thank you so much Betty for supporting our vision of a world where everyone has a decent place to live.
