It features a report by the National Low Income Housing Coalition that found that Hawai‘i has the most expensive rental housing in the nation and the largest gap between wage and rent. There is a tremendous need for affordable homes for Kaua‘i families. Please support the mission of Kaua‘i Habitat for Humanity which envisions a world where everyone has a decent place to live.

Women Build Success!

Group with last framed wall of first house phase 2-aWhat a successful day of building by the women of Kaua‘i! It was a great day all around. These outstanding volunteers spent the day framing walls for the first 1.5 homes being built for Phase II of the ‘Ele‘ele Iluna subdivision. From the touching words from Rep. Dee Morikawa, Rev. Ipo Kahaunaele-Ferreira and Congresswoman Tulsi Gabbard, to the delicious buffet provided by Hanapepe Hawaiian Congregational Church, it was a build day all will remember. A very special mahalo to the more than 50 volunteers that made this event possible.IMG_0903IMG_0763

Aloha Global Village

DSCN9841The time has come once again to say farewell to our visiting Global Village team visiting us from Canada. What a wonderful group of people! We were thrilled to see some returning faces and it was great fun meeting the new volunteers. While it is impossible to fully express our gratitude, our Group/Event Coordinator Carol Simon, sends them off with a Mahalo Celebration to show them how much they mean to us.

Way to go AmeriCorps

facebook 2We are very proud of our AmeriCorps volunteers that have been working with us to build homes and hope on Kaua‘i! This week, however, they have left the island for New Orleans to participate in Habitat’s annual AmeriCorps Build-a-Thon! Mahalo, Howie Apilado, Rita Klofta and Maggie Stryker for commemorating the rebirth of the U.S. Gulf Coast ten years after the destruction caused by Hurricane Katrina.

What a Blessing

IMG_0866On May 7, 2015 a blessing was held to celebrate the completion of infrastructure work on Phase II of the ‘Ele‘ele Iluna subdivision. It was a great morning as our Director of Development, Milani Pimental, and Executive Director, Stephen Spears, welcomed the crowd of supporters. We were then treated to a few words from County Housing Director Kamuela Cobb-Adams. The blessing began with a reading from Bishop’s Warden Lyn Farman, and a Prayer for Cities and Communities was performed by Pastor Jim Stickney of the Episcopal Church on West Kaua‘i. Mahalo to all that attended and made tIMG_0857his such a special event.IMG_0862
