Welcome Global Village Team 15044!

DSCN2409We are excited once again to welcome a Global Village team to the island. This team is being led by Jan Roberta who also led our most recent team of volunteers. Team members are coming from all over the United States and Canada and do so much for us while they are here. It always amazes me that these wonderful people are willing to work so hard for people they haven’t even met yet. One of the projects they will be working on is a “Brush of Kindness” painting project on a Habitat for Humanity home. This home was built in 2001 on Dept. of Hawaiian Homelands and is in need of a renovation. Other projects lined up for this team include finish work on a new construction project on Dept. of Hawaiian Homelands in Anahola, clearing land around our affiliate’s volunteer house and construction projects in our ReStore®. Welcome Global Village Team #15044! We so appreciate you coming to Kaua‘i to build homes and hope in our community.

Walk, Run or Bike for Charity!

charity milesDo you walk, run or bike to keep in shape? Wouldn’t you love to be able to help a charity by doing your normal exercise routine? Well now you can! Recently we came across a free app called Charity Miles that makes a donation every time you walk, run or bike! It’s super easy. All you do is open the app and choose a charity before you begin your workout. There are several charities to choose from and Habitat for Humanity is among them. It really is that easy! For more information on this free app check out their website at

Kaua`i Helps Abroad!

To further our mission of building a world where everyone has a decent place to live we have to think globally. That is why for the past several years Kaua‘i Habitat has forwarded a percentage of our unrestricted revenue to an overseas affiliate to help build homes and hope on a global scale. Due to the large Filipino community base of Kaua‘i, as well as the destruction their region has experienced, we have chosen to support the Philippines. We are happy to announce that this year we were able to send more than $5,500 to help out the families in need after so much devastation has occurred in their area. Philipines

Hand Up Not Hand Out!

handupnothandoutBreaking the cycle of poverty through affordable housing benefits the entire community. It’s a hand up, not a hand out.

Why We Build!

Dellvyne Gandia receives the keys to her new homeHere are just a few reasons why We Build!

  • Homeownership can help break the cycle of poverty by allowing families to accumulate wealth through home equity; for low-income families, housing wealth often equals total wealth
  • Higher rates of homeownership correspond with increased household and neighborhood stability and a reduction in violent crime in a neighborhood
  • Compared to renters, children of homeowners are more likely to achieve higher levels of education and income, and to become homeowners themselves

Mark Your Calendars!

Coming SoonWe are looking for volunteers to participate in Women Build 2015. Women Build is a Habitat for Humanity International program that encourages women to make a difference by building homes and communities. Women Builds provide an environment in which women can feel comfortable learning construction skills they might not otherwise have the opportunity to learn. In the United States, 48.5 million people are living in poverty. Habitat’s Women Build program recruits, educates and nurtures women to build – and advocate for – simple, decent and affordable houses in their community. We are hoping all the women of Kaua‘i will come together this May to make a difference. If you would like to participate in this empowering event please contact Christina at 335-0296 ext. 152 or We look forward to showing the nation just how powerful the women of Kaua‘i can be.
