Good Bye Global Village Team Currie

DSCN2311It’s time once again to say good bye to another amazing Global Village Team! Team Currie did so much for us during their visit! We can’t thank them enough. Before we could let them go we had to make sure they experienced a little Hawaiian culture and received a proper send off. The team was treated to a Hula lesson by our own Habitat Homeowner Vern Kauanui at Salt Pond Beach Park, and we held a Mahalo Celebration in their honor at St. John’s  Episcopal Church in ‘Ele‘ele. I do hope they enjoyed their stay here on Kaua‘i and know just how much we enjoyed having them here. DSCN2313DSCN2320DSCN2321DSCN2334

Global Village Makes Impact on Kaua`i!

IMG_4563A big mahalo to Global Village Currie, who have been busy building homes and hope all over Kaua‘i this past week. This group has done some incredible work. They started out the week working on to a renovation project at our volunteer house in ‘Ele‘ele. From there they moved on to working on the future home of Vern Kauanui and Don Baker in Anahola. After a couple days at that job site we put them to work constructing a dressing room for our ReStore® in Hanapepe! You would think that would be enough but they’re back to work this week at Vern and Don’s home to continue the construction there. Now that is getting things done! Kauai Habitat Anniversary

IMG_4566A great time was had by all who celebrated Kaua‘i Habitat’s 22 years of building homes and hope this past Saturday. The celebration took place at our ReStore® where everyone gathered to share good times, good food and great deals. Our local community has given us so much and it was nice to give back to them in the form of big discounts on merchandise in the ReStore®. Here’s to another successful year Kaua‘i Habitat!! Family First

Hawkins, Victoria, Katherine, Jacob, CalebWe were once again blessed to have a family of volunteers visit the office today! This family truly amazed me. We all know there are a lot of great vacation activities to do on the garden island, but according to Katherine Hawkins, volunteering as a family comes first. She let me know that they will hit the tourist activities in time, but it’s most important to her is that they give back to the community first. Volunteering with Kaua‘i Habitat is the highlight and everything else comes second. Can you imagine if more people felt this way? Of course you know what we did. We put them to work! The family spent the day working in our ReStore®. This isn’t the first time either. In 2013 Katherine visited with some of her other children and guess what? They did the same thing. A big Mahalo to you Hawkins Family!

Volunteer Spotlight

IMG_4429What a job local volunteers have done to salvage an old deck to be reused! Reduce-Recycle-Reuse and of course ReStore®. We wanted to make sure and give a big mahalo to Guy Ambrose,  Mark Hubbard, Bill Newton, Jim Costello, Frank Whitman, Gregg Kravitz and Gil Donnelly for all the hard work they put in to ensure that this lumber will be repurposed. IMG_4423IMG_4420IMG_4421IMG_4419
