First Hawaiian Bank Serves Kaua`i

DSCN1991First Hawaiian Bank continues to clean up Kaua‘i, and we are grateful for all the help at our job site in Anahola! With the Loketi family home nearing completion, it was time to start transforming the area from build site to family yard. With the help of more than a dozen volunteers from First Hawaiian Bank we were able to begin the process of removing the dust fence. Removing the dust fence is always exciting, although a lot of work, but it’s fun to unveil the home and see how it’s going to look in the neighborhood. DSCN1997DSCN2000DSCN2019DSCN2023DSCN2013DSCN2032DSCN2033

Hard to Say Good-bye!

DSCN2042This past Saturday we said a heartfelt good-bye to the members of Global Village Team McGee! It was a beautiful evening at Salt Pond Beach Park where Kaua‘i Habitat staff, Habitat homeowners and volunteers gathered to share stories and a feast to say farewell to the generous individuals of the Global Village team. While on island the team worked along side Vern Kauanui and Don Baker on their future home in Anahola. The team also began building the fencing that surrounds the ‘Ele‘ele Iluna subdivision. The team did a great job and all of us are very grateful for all they accomplished on their week long visit. DSCN2041DSCN2055DSCN2062DSCN2064

Welcome Elizabeth!

elizabethElizabeth Lee is here on Kaua‘i building with her first Global Village team. She comes to us from northwest Ohio, where she married her high school sweetheart. Elizabeth is a professional photographer and owns her own photography business. We are excited and grateful to have her volunteering to build homes here on Kaua‘i! We know she will be busy working hard at the build site, but we’re sure she will find some time to photograph the beautiful scenery on Kaua‘i. Mahalo Elizabeth!

Welcome Barry!

barryBarry Mansfield is on island building with a Global Village team! Growing up in a small Vermont town, Barry learned how to work with his hands before joining the Navy after high school. After working as an Airborne Radio Operator he went on to receive a Bachelor’s and Master’s Degree from the University of Vermont, and after 30 years retired from his teaching and administrative position there. Since retirement Barry has become focused on Habitat for Humanity, participating in builds in Alabama, California, Thailand and New York. Mahalo Barry for all you have given to Habitat for Humanity and for participating in this Global Village team build in Kaua‘i. Your service is very much appreciated.

Welcome Sue!

sueSue Henderson is no stranger to the workings of Habitat for Humanity! She has been working for Habitat for Humanity International (Atlanta Office) since 2008, and has been involved with three travel builds. At home in Atlanta, Sue enjoys the wonderful old neighborhoods and golfing is her passion. While building will take up the majority of her time on island, we are hoping she finds some time to visit one of our beautiful golf courses. Mahalo Sue for the work that you do with Habitat for Humanity International and it’s 1,471 US affiliates!

Welcome Mica!

micaMica DeAngelis has many to ties to Habitat for Humanity programs. After retiring from a 40 year career in education, Mica has dedicated a great deal of time to supporting the mission of Habitat. Her first build was in Alabama as part of a Care-a-vanner build where she and her husband traveled in their Airstream building homes with other traveling retirees. Since then she has been active with Collegiate Challenge builds each spring, has traveled to Thailand and Los Angeles to build with the Jimmy and Roslyn Carter Work Project and volunteers one day a week at her local affiliate’s ReStore®! We are so excited that she can now list Global Village to her list of Habitat programs. As a Global Village volunteer Mica will spend this week working on a home in Anahola. Mahalo Mica for your dedication and support!

Welcome Sheila!

sheilaSheila comes to us from Southern California, and like many of us, enjoys the sand and surf on a daily basis.  Married for 23 years, Sheila also enjoys creating with water colors, traveling and the company of her dog. Mahalo Sheila for making Kaua‘i Habitat for Humanity part of your journey and know how grateful we are for people such as yourself.
