People travel a long way from home to #volunteer on a Global Village team. As did Connie when she traveled 5000 miles to participate on one in Kaua`i. Read what she came away with on her visit to #thegardenisland. “I’m an ER doctor, originally from the Washington DC area. I love travelling both internationally and domestically, and have lived in many places. Last year, one of my friends told me about a Global Village trip to Kaua`i she had recently signed up to do. I’d never done any construction prior to that trip. Joining that Global Village trip was one of the best experiences I’ve had so far. I enjoyed my time so much that I continued to regularly volunteer with my local affiliate as well as others I’ve visited in my travels. I’ve also returned to Kaua`i Habitat on several individual build trips. In just a little over a year, I’ve spent over 400 hours building with various Habitat affiliates and have worked on 15 different homes! I’m now looking into leading my own Global Village team in 2015. On my first trip to Kaua`i, I met a guy from the Washington DC area working with Habitat for Humanity. We’ve been dating for a year now. I had to go 5000 miles to find somebody from home!” In Connie’s case, I guess romance can be added to the many benefits of being a #globalvillage volunteer.
