In the words of a homeowner

Ona 2Recently we posted a blog on what a volunteer had to say about how touched she was after hearing stories and receiving a small token from the homeowners once her stay was completed. After reading what this #volunteer had to say we received a response from one of our homeowners sharing her experience as well. She had beautiful things to say about her experience that we thought we would share.

“We are so touched by the many volunteers who put their hands into our home building. We are forever grateful for the kind words from all of them and knowing that the small token we left them made a tremendous impact, makes all of us blessed to have people like  them exist in today’s world. Too many of us get caught up in the day to day life and sometimes we just have to stop and breathe and ask god to bless all who made this possible for all of us….”

She went on to thank the #volunteers and #kauaihabitat, and even volunteered to provide ti leaf lei′ as tokens for future volunteers. The cycle of giving continues.

`Ele`ele Iluna Subdivision Lottery Results

Results of the `Ele`ele Iluna Subdivision lottery are now available! Click here to visit our `Ele`ele Iluna Subdivision Lottery Results page. You may also call the office at (808) 335-0296 ext. 111 or 117 during office hours from 8:00 am – 4:30 pm Monday-Friday or see full detail information below.

————————

The completed application deadline was March 21 for the first 30 houses for Phase II in the `Ele`ele Iluna Subdivision. Thank you to everyone that made time to come to our mandatory orientation meetings to learn about the Habitat process and affordable housing opportunities in `Ele`ele.  415 applications were distributed, and 257 were fully completed and received by the deadline.

On March 25th, random numbers were computer generated for the numbers from 1 to 257. The results of the Lottery Ranking of applicants can be viewed or downloaded by clicking here: Lottery Ranking Order (you must have Adobe PDF reader to view).

  • STEP 1 – Find your Lottery Rank Order number

To find out what your Lottery Rank Order is, look for your assigned Application Number under the column marked “Your Application #” and refer to the Lottery Rank Order number directly to the right.

  • STEP 2 – I found my Lottery Rank Order number, now what?

If the “Lottery Rank Order” number assigned to “Your Application #” is lower than 100, you will be notified by mail to attend a meeting where we will discuss mortgage funding options with you and discuss our initial Selection Committee evaluation as to whether you meet the guidelines for Income and ability to qualify and repay a mortgage.

  • STEP 3 – I found my Lottery Rank Order number, BUT what if the number is higher than 100?

Your Lottery Rank Order will remain the same until all 30 homes have qualified families and homes are constructed. If we can not qualify 30 homeowners out of the first 100 in Rank order, then we will continue up the list from 101 until we have all 30 homeowners qualified.

If I’m selected as one of the 30, when would I know if I really WILL have a home in the subdivision?
This process is quite lengthy and takes time. You will be confirmed as one of our homeowners when you are fully qualified and have secured a mortgage loan to purchase your home and lot from Habitat or one of the lenders.

If you are one of the 257 that submitted an application and you are not selected or do not build one of the 30 homes we are selecting for now, you will have a chance to submit an application for the next group of homes we build. We will begin the whole process over again and new Lottery Rank Order will be issued at the time of the next selection process.

What if I’m not on your notification list yet?
If you are not currently on our notification list and would like to be, please sign-up on our website or call our office to have your information added. This would give you the chance to apply in our next group of homes that we build in the Subdivision.

Anahola Prince Kuhio Day Celebration

anahola_prince_kuhio_dayJoin us in celebrating Prince Kuhio Day at Anahola Beach Park Saturday, March 29th, 2014 from 11 a.m – 5 p.m.. Stop by and visit our table in the Community Happenings tent. You’ll be able to catch up on what Kaua`i Habitat for Humanity has been up to as well as learn what you can do to help eliminate poverty housing and homelessness from the world. Our Volunteer Coordinator, Jess, will be there to answer any questions you may have and let you know what volunteer opportunities are needed here on the garden island. Our own homeowner Lady Ipo will be the Emcee for the event. There will be entertainment and cultural activities, and of course craft and food booths! It’s an event for the entire community! We hope to see you there.

Mahalo Celebration

Team BockmillerA great time was had by all at the #Mahalo Celebration Wednesday, March 19th at Salt Pond Beach Park.  It was held to thank the Bockmiller Team for all their hard work during their stay here on #thegardenisland. Shelbi-Ahlan Shimazu performed a special hula to thank the volunteers for how they touched her families life. Of course food was plentiful and leis donated by Ho`omana Thrift Store were a perfect gift to send the team off in style! #globalvillage #teambockmiller #buildinghomesandhope #kauaihabitat

In the Words of a Volunteer

Martha WelchAfter a #globalvillage team completes their #Habitat homebuilding project and prepares to head home, we hold a Mahalo Celebration to show our gratitude for all the work they have done on their visit. It’s never anything big, just a little informal get together where we can say mahalo, and they get the opportunity to hear family stories from the recipients of their hard work. This is an excerpt from an email that we received from Martha, one of the team members, after she had returned home.

“…would you please tell the families we met at the lovely Mahalo [Celebration] last week how much their gifts and stories meant to all of us. I’m going to frame the postcards and hang them by my desk here at home, to keep them and all of you in my thoughts and best wishes each day.”

Our Volunteer Coordinator Jessica shared this with the families that participated, just to let them know how their small gesture of sharing stories and sending #volunteers off with a small gift made a significant impact in someone’s life. In the spirit of sharing, I also wanted to pass her story on. So everyone can see how little it takes to make a big impact to someone else.
