Līhu‘e, Hawai‘i – The Kauai Board of REALTORS®, along with sponsors Bank of Hawaii and Title Guaranty, is pleased to showcase one of the three Kaua‘i Habitat homes they helped begin back in August 2012. The home will be the last stop during their April 24 Eastside Caravan (Kealia to Aliomanu).

In August 2012 over 50 members and affiliate members of the Kauai Board of REALTORS®, friends, and volunteers came together with a combined 400+ hours of labor to give a “hand up” to three Kaua‘i Habitat for Humanity partner families in Anahola. Thanks to the support and fundraising efforts of the Kauai Board of REALTORS® and its members, families, and friends, $8,500 in contributions were raised to further the efforts of Kaua‘i Habitat’s work of building affordable homes for Kaua‘i families in need.

Today, all three homes are close to completion and final inspection. Our homeowner families, the Fernandez ‘ohana, Napoleon ‘ohana, and the Kaaihue-Paopao ‘ohana are so thankful for the opportunity to have homes of their own and cannot wait to move in.

Stephen Spears, executive director of Kauai Habitat said, “These families have been working hard every chance they get since August to build their homes. They were so touched when the REALTORS® came out in August to help begin their homes – building foundations AND raising money to help further our work. Our renewed partnership with the Kauai Board of Realtors is a natural fit given our mutual goal of providing housing on Kaua‘i. We are very lucky to have their support and thank them for all their continued efforts.”

About Kaua‘i Habitat for Humanity

Kaua‘i Habitat for Humanity is a local affiliate of Habitat for Humanity International, an ecumenical, nonprofit, Christian housing ministry. Its mission is to eliminate poverty housing and homelessness from the world – one house at a time on Kaua‘i – and to make decent shelter a matter of conscience and action. Through volunteer and homeowner labor, and donations of money and materials, Habitat builds and rehabilitates simple, decent houses.

Kaua‘i Habitat features two main home building programs: New Home Construction Program and Repair and Renovation Program. Kaua‘i Habitat for Humanity also operates ReStore®, which sells new and used discounted building and construction materials and household items. Proceeds from ReStore® support Kaua‘i Habitat for Humanity’s mission to build decent, affordable housing. Since 1992 Kaua‘i Habitat has built 108 affordable homes and made critical repairs to 19 existing homes for Kaua‘i families whose household income is between 30-80% of the median Kaua`i income. Because the critical need for affordable housing continues to persist on our island, Kaua`i Habitat has pledged to scale up our capacity and build our next 100 homes before the next decade.
